Last Tuesday I went to Norm's River Road House (up River Road about 5 miles past the Wal-Marts on Charlotte) to see Jeff Black. Jeff has been one of my favorite Nashville singer/songwriters since (I think) I heard him play "Noah's Ark" while opening for Steve Earle at TPAC in 1994 (that was a long time ago, so memory could be a tad fuzzy).
Jeff played "Noah's Ark" at my request Tuesday night, and it was really amazing. Norm's can be a noisy little "road house," honky-tonky kinda room, but when Jeff sang "Noah's Ark," the performance was so intense that everybody stopped and listened. The room was silent, except for Jeff's guitar and vocals. It was like he transformed the place into the Bluebird. THAT's how compelling Jeff Black is as solo performer.
Now I learn that somebody has posted a video to YouTube of another song Jeff performed that night:
YouTube video by Ann Shaw (follow the link to see videos of some of my other favorites).
And here are some more of the photos that I shot, as well.
