A right-leaning friend I haven't heard from for a while writes this morning re: my likely voting for Barack Obama:
do you like the idea of a "socialist" government?
To which I have answered:
I think the word "socialist" is being thrown around as a quasi-racist epithet. It's just one more desperate, last ditch effort by the McCain campaign to paint their opponent something "other" to an easily frightened constituency who really has no idea what the word means.
It's really rather sad that entire McCain campaign has devolved into little more than vicious invective.
But anything has to be better than the lying, thieving, fascist regime we've been living under for the past eight years that was elected under the phony, cynical guise of "compassionate conservatism."
I have resisted the temptation to ask if he really thinks his kids will be safe with Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the Oval Office. That would be nasty. Sorta like John McCain.
