For my Republican friends, if you're disappointed in the outcome, please keep this in mind:
After the 1960 election, John Wayne, who had supported Richard Nixon, is reputed to have said:
"I didn't vote for him, but he's my President, and I hope he does a good job."
The election is over. The new President will have to lead us through a lot of challenges: restoring the economy, ending two wars while preserving the nation's security and restoring America's standing as a beacon for the rest of the world.
For the time being at least, I hope we can put the partisan rancor of the past few months behind us. The best we can hope for now is that the new President "does a good job."
