Yesterday, cloudy but warm; today, snowy and cold. These have gotta be some of the heartiest flowers on the planet... hang in there, little buddies.

Daffodils 080221 (DSC_0054)

Dimwad here forgot to re-set the camera to RAW+JPG after yesterday's lighting class, so tiny JPEGs was all I had to work with today...it's always something

Daffodils 080218 (DSC_0038)

The blossoms are open, the camera is on the ground on a tiny, almost toy tripod, and I'm practically on my belly to get the shot... thank God for a right-angle viewfinder on my D80....

I just liked the detail, how the petals lay over each other while the they gather up the strength to venture out into the cold...

Hanging in there after a night of freezing rain, snow, and temperatures in the low 20's.

Daffodils 080212 (DSC_0088.JPG)

It's raining this morning. I didn't think I was going to go out and shoot the daffodils in the rain. But I went out anyway to see how the buds were coming along, and when I saw the rain drops on them I went back inside and got all the gear. This one was done with the Nikkor 105 Macro AND the Nikon #6T diopter, focused from about 8" away.

The hardest part (other than being on my knees -- I really do need me some knee pads!) is just waiting for even the slightest breeze to abate in order to get a sharp image. Just look at the water drop on the very tip....

Daffodils Day 3 (DSC_0057.JPG)

This one was taken in late-afternoon light on Sunday Feb 10 (with an umbrella to soften the light). I used a tripod and was on my knees in the mud for like 45 minutes. I've decided my next piece of photo gear is going to be a sturdy set of knee pads....

Daffodils Day 2 (DSC_0021.JPG)

Macro photography, what a concept. If I'd realized what a contortionist I'd have to be, I'da just gone straight into the circus...

It's the first week of February, and already the daffodils are coming up in our back yard. Can spring be far off? Yeah, it can...
