ANY politics on this site will make half the people think you're a fool or an idiot. Your previous policy of eschewing politics was much better.

Meanwhile, here's my rebuttal:

The notoriously leftist and anti-American Nobel Committee selects people who prefer Obama? What a surprise! Whom did you expect the likes of Al Gore and Jimmy Carter to prefer?

The Nobel Committee has long been an embarrassment to itself. The endorsement of people endorsed by it constitutes a prediction that Obama will cripple the U.S. if he becomes President.

Carl Willis

>notoriously leftist and anti-American Nobel Committee

So this "rebuttal" turns out to be little more than a hackneyed McCarthyite insult, one that's become so threadbare over the decades as to become practically devoid of meaning today. Travers, surely you can do better than to just label the Nobel Committee unamurkins and call it a night.

Unfortunately it's also quite true.

I find it hardly a surprise that a group of people dependant upon grants for their livelihood, might heartily endorse a socialist.

Obama is a joke... McCain is an old joke.. both are more concerned with the AARP and the Catholic voting block than they are with real science.

Don't read to much into the endorsements of those who stand to benefit directly from the person being endorsed.

If the research is valid, it will find backing in the free market. If a student seeks knowledge he will pay for his education... Is it so bad to live without benevolent patronage, if it also means you don't have a feudal master? There is a reason the CCCP wasn't a research powerhouse, and that is why Obama andhis ilk are more a threat than a boon.

Leave politics out of it.

Richard Hull

Politics and Religion have no place in real science, though they often invade its space, they must never invade its spirit.

We, as people living in a real world are forced to deal with at least politics at some level. However, when we are doing and discussing science, per se, we need to not do politics, especially as related to elections and more so to no recommending candidates just because one institution is "in the can" for them or think they are real pretty and the best thing since sliced bread.

Nobel literature head: US too insular to compete

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - Bad news for American writers hoping for a Nobel Prize next week: the top member of the award jury believes the United States is too insular and ignorant to compete with Europe when it comes to great writing.

Counters the head of the U.S. National Book Foundation: "Put him in touch with me, and I'll send him a reading list."

As the Swedish Academy enters final deliberations for this year's award, permanent secretary Horace Engdahl said it's no coincidence that most winners are European.

Horace Engdahl's idiotic comment proves Travers point.

Keep politics out of the forum.

Of relevant interest seeing as how this has become a political thread.

McCain wants more nuclear power.

Maybe we should ask the economists? "A statement signed by 100 distinguished and experienced economists at major American universities and research organizations including five Nobel Prize winners explains why Barack Obama's proposals would "decrease the number of jobs in America....Obama's economic proposals are wrong for the American economy." The proposals "defy both economic reason and economic experience."

"We are convinced that Senator Barack Obama is such a leader..."

I would have thought a bunch of Nobel Laureates with science and research backgrounds would have needed some facts to base their decisions on considering they are convinced of his leadership abilities - based on what leadership background? I'm not saying McCain would have been much better, but maybe more predictable and less likely to make extreme errors. Who knows.

If you want or expect the Left's help with your work, you might want to invent a new name for it that does not include the word "nuclear".

Stick to the science and ignore the politics.

Danny

Boy, do I feel better. Do you suppose it was "CHANGE" or "YES WE CAN" that made the biggest impression on'em? Or maybe it was CNN or NBC.
Now in 2012 Sarah is my dream girl. Just think, she's easy to look at, can have a baby, field dress a moose, and govern a state all at the same time. And thats just what we know about. With her ability to multitask, the possibilities are truly endless. Her little catch phrase could be "JUST EMAGINE". I know I can, and I bet them laureates could too.

Danny

That would be "JUST IMAGINE"
Oops

wargammer2005

just goes to show you that brains, common sense, and the ability to read do not all go toghther.

not one of the anti-christ obama's posistions is Constitutional.

throw out the US Constitution and you get china, russia, germany, lots of death by goverment.

but it no longer matters.
the world is heaing for a war that will make world war 2 look like a pie fight because we threw away God.

We are very fortunate that Obama is not a crook. Unfortunately it appears that a great many of his political associates are.

I am comforted by the thought that people get the government they deserve. Here is hoping we get it good and hard. pour l'encourager les autres

Every person with a home fusion reactor in his own garage. Maybe two.

Time will tell. Right now it appears that we are headed for a many-year Obama economic depression. Fortunately, Obama happens to be a messiah, so we may be in for a blessing of the loaves and the fishes, before it is all over.

Obama not a crook? What about the Rezko land deal on his house?

Were any of the Nobels in Economics?

It's amazing that there are so many people in science with such little, shallow minds. After reading the comments to this post I realized that the so called "great scientific minds" are not posting on this site.

Alphy

Politically, I'm frightened of everyone. This is one reason why I have been searching for some sort of practical home power for years--be it grass, solar, or even nuclear--eventually leading to despair. (Several months ago, for example, I had the idea of extracting carbon-14 from grass use for nuclear power, only to discover that I'd have to process 1 trillion ounces of carbon to get one ounce of carbon-14! And this doesn't even take into account the fissability of carbon-14, if there is any.)

Learning about the fusor has given me a lot of hope. When I have time, I will certainly seek to produce and improve one!

john

Glad to see there are men of genius, who understand where this is all leading. Your endeavors are the support beams future generations will build upon to lead us out of this new dark age. Obviously it is individual creativity that has always been the spark of true scientific advancement/achievement, and it is individual creativity that may carry us up and over this speed bump on the road of mans development, namely the illuminati/ british empire's beast system.
