In truth, virtually all Broadway theaters had a great week that week. The period from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 is one of the busiest tourist weeks here in New York City. I saw two plays that week (buying discount tickets through the TKTS booth), and the pickings were fairly slim. (All musicals sold out early, leaving only the "dramas.") January is when many plays face real tests: Many tourists go home, NYC residents get back to business, films in the theaters are top-notch, Christmas bills come due, the weather is lousy -- it all adds up a rough time for Broadway. It's the month in which many plays die.
